Mammoth on a dime
Yes, you can still afford the newly upscale ski retreat, if you go at it with a cut-rate mind-set.
01/02/2009
The European-style pedestrian hub in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., is the crown jewel of a multimillion-dollar makeover that its detractors claim is turning this blue-collar ski town into the Aspen of the West Coast.
Good news amid bad: discounts
01/02/2009 - The value of the U.S. dollar is surging, gas prices are at their lowest levels in four years, and hotel rates are softening. If you can afford a vacation, 2009 will be "the year of travel deals," predicts Genevieve Shaw Brown, senior editor of Travelocity. "As long as the economic slowdown continues, deals will abound for people who do have discretionary income to travel."

Seeing Islam as it's lived

  • Go Green: Weekly Tips

Travel has a profound impact on the environment, but we can help to minimize our effect. In partnership with Greenprint Denver, the Mayor's Office of Sustainability, we offer tips to keep your travel as green as possible.

    While at your destination:
Here are a few things you can do when you get there to help make your trip a little greener.

    • Avoid fast food restaurants. An enormous amount of waste is created through packaging and shipping.
    • Getting takeout? Just say no to Styrofoam containers. They are non-biodegradable, toxic when heated, and dangerous if swallowed.
    • Avoid using disposable condiment packets.
    • Don t drink bottled water. Purchase a reusable, preferably glass, bottle and refill it.
    • Take public transportation or walk.
